Introduction

The Société québécoise de gestion collective des droits de reproduction, commonly referred to as Copibec, is a not-for-profit collective that was founded in 1997 by Quebec authors and book publishers in the Union des écrivaines et écrivains québécois (UNEQ) and the Association nationale des éditeurs de livres (ANEL).

Since then, Copibec’s membership has expanded to include various other organizations representing visual artists and newspaper and periodical authors and publishers.

Acting under the direct authority of copyright owners, Copibec currently represents 950 Quebec publishers of books, newspapers and periodicals, as well as approximately 25,000 authors from Quebec and the rest of Canada. In addition to a large number of newspapers and periodicals, our repertoire of copyrighted works published in Quebec includes more than 130,000 books.

Copibec is a reference and an essential partner for the collective management of works and for information on copyright in the text and visual arts area.
